What is Vitamin K ?

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that is created in the
intestine by microorganisms bacteria known as gut flora.
Therefore you do not need to take much vitamin K from
food.

What does Vitamin K do?


The primary role of vitamin K is assisting blood clotting
following an injury, so that you don't bleed to death.

Where is Vitamin K found?


Vitamin K is found in apricot kernels (which by the way
taste horrible) green vegetables and soybeans.

What happens if we don't get enough?

Unless you suffer some medical conditions, it is highly
unlikely that you will be deficient in vitamin K.

However, it has become routine practice in New Zealand
and elsewhere for new born babies to receive a vitamin K
injection to reduce the risk of bleeding problems.

What happens if we get too much?

If we get too much vitamin K it i can be harmful because it
increases coagulation or blood clotting.

The recommended daily dose of vitamin K is 120 µg.
