What is Vitamin EVitamin E is a nutrient found in fats. It is stored in bodyfat. What does Vitamin E do?Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant that helps prevent celldamage. Vitamin E is required for the metabolism and healthy blood cells. Vitamin E is reported to lower cholesterol. There has been medical and scientific research into the use of vitamin E to prevent heart problems, however recent research suggests that taking extra vitamin E does not lower the risk of heart disease. Where is Vitamin E found?Vitamin E is found in oily fish such as salmon,vegetable oils, nuts, seeds especially sunflower seeds, eggs and cereals. What happens if we don't get enough? Although deficiencies are unusual, insufficient amounts of vitamin E can cause damage to nerves,blood cells and muscles. What happens if we get too much? Extremely high doses may be harmful, and have been linked to congestive heart failure and other heart problems. The recommended daily intake RDI of Vitamin E is 7mg for women and 10 mg for men with a maximum of 1000mg. |
