What is Niacin Vitamin B3?

Vitamin B3 is similar to vitamin B1, but it can also be made in the body from an
amino acid (part of protein) called tryptophan.


What does it do?

Vitamin B3 helps with energy production.
Vitamin B3 also helps lower cholesterol.

Where is Vitamin B3 found?

It is found in broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, green vegetables, brown rice,
legumes, whole-grain cereals, Vegemite, nuts, white button mushrooms,
zucchini, some vegetables and all protein foods (meats and sea foods).

Humans can produce some vitamins from precursors they consume,and
Vitamin B3 is an example where niacin, can be made by the body from the
amino acid tryptophan.

What happens if I don't get enough vitamin B3?

This is most unlikely if you eat a wide varied diet, however, alcoholics can also
have a niacin deficiency.

Niacin deficiencies can also cause depression

Some nutritionists consider two handfuls of cashew nuts to have the equivalent
effect as a prescriptive dose of prozac, without the risks of any side effetcs.
