Folic acid is involved with vitamin B12 in making genetic
material in new cells, and also helps build proteins.

It assists with the formation of new red blood cells.

Where is Folic Acid found?

Good sources of folate are whole-grains, green leafy
vegetables such as spinach and kale, legumes, kidney
beans, dried beans, chickpeas, black beans, nuts, brussel
sprouts, cauliflower, parsnips, melon,oranges, asparagus,
avocado, Vegemite. There is also some in eggs, sea foods,
meats, milk (except for goat's milk) and cheese.

- diarrhea.
- Hair loss
- You can get stomach ulcers
- Sore mouth and tongue, cracks around the corners of
your mouth.

In pregnancy a lot of folate is needed to make new cells. It
is now known that having plenty of folate approximately 3
months prior to and during the first trimester of pregnancy
can reduce the risk of a group of abnormalities in particular
spina bifida called neural tube defects in the baby by up to
70%.

Remember everyone needs folic acid not just pregnant
women.

400 mcg is the daily recommended dose but you
should take more if you are pregnant or trying to
conceive. There have been no adverse effects observed
have at intake levels of 1000 mcg.

Folic acid is an important catalyst for many metabolic
pathways. If you have been struggling to lose weight a
deficiency in folic acid could be the cause as it regulates
a healthy metabolism.
